What an excellent County Championships we had at Tormead School, Guildford on the 16 March. James Batchelor, Isobel Lambert and Chloe Mason are now County Champions after their excellent competition. They did really well on all four pieces. Edward Cormack and Adam Cieslak-Jones also had a successful competition.

All the gymnasts competed at tumble for the very first time and Isobel became County Champion in her first tumbling competition! Alex Lally attained a silver on Vault in the Advanced competition but unfortunately suffered an injury on trampette and had to discontinue and was not able to compete on the other disciplines.
Well done to all the gymnasts!

Well done everyone who competed at the Regional floor and vault competition! There were 23 clubs and 585 gymnasts competing against each other. The day started at 8am and finished at 7.45pm so another long day but well worth it!

Some highlights included:

We had five medal positons which is fantastic for a Regional competition with so many entries in each category and age group.

I would also like to mention that the coaches generously gave up their Sunday on a voluntary basis to support the gymnasts, as they were supported when they competed in the past.

We entered 4 teams in the Surrey Teams competition competing against twelve other clubs in the County. It was a very hectic day and a very successful one - 2 teams came second and 2 teams came third.

The first team to compete were in the under 11 girls intermediate section. The competitors were Nicole Gujer, Lucy Taylor, Isobel Lambert, Fiona Fullilove and Emma Cieslak-Jones. They were in the largest grouping of the day and did their club proud coming 3rd to gain a bronze medal. Some of the girls are only 9 so have 2 more years to compete at this age level.

The second team were the Under 9 boys intermediates and once again were young for this grouping. They were Harry Small, Finn Fox, Jake Smalley, Bryan Thomas, and Lewis Herzog. The team came second to gain a silver medal each.

The third team competing were in the under 11 boys intermediates including Edward Cormack, Adam Cieslak-Jones, James Batchelor Alex Kalinin and Benjamin Pike. The boys came 2nd to gain silver.

Our fourth team were our older gymnasts in the over 11 girls advanced section performing some superb round off tuck back somersaults and back flics. They came 3rd to win the bronze medal position. They were Rebecca Lally, Alex Lally, Lizzie Parsons, Rachel Richardson and Danielle Hearn.

The coaches were really impressed with their excellent performances and behaviour and were great ambassadors for their club. Well done everyone!

Surrey Borders Gymnastics club entered five gymnasts into the Surrey County gymnastics competition held at Tolworth on 25 February. These are children who train at Intermediate level up to six hours per week.

In the first round we had sisters, Rebecca Lally and Alex Lally in the Under 13 age group. Both girls performed extremely well against strong opposition. Alex came 8th on trampette performing a tucked front somersault to score 7.80. On her vault she performed a handspring and scored 8.20 coming 8th. Her floor routine was very good scoring 8.10 giving her 7th position. Older sister, Rebecca came 2nd on floor with a very sharp floor routine scoring 8.90. Her tuck back somersault on trampette got her 7th place scoring 8.30. Her handspring vault scored 8.30 giving her 6th place.

In the next round Rosie Sears did an excellent floor routine and came first scoring 8.50. Her handspring vault gave her another first with a score of 8.70 on the trampette. Rosie did tuck back somersault and came 3rd with a score of 8.10. It was a very good performance all round for Rosie.

In the boys section we had Edward Cormack who did a very tidy floor and came first scoring 8.40. His somersault on trampette scored 8.20 and first position and his straddle over vault scored 7.80 giving him a hatrick 3 gold's - well done Edward!

Adam Cieslak-Jones scored 8.00 on floor, 7.60 for his straddle over vault and 7.90 on his somersault on trampette with a score of 7.90. Adam also got a hatrick earning himself three silver medals – well done Adam!

This was a great effort from the boys and girls of Surrey Borders gymnastics club and their coaches are very proud of them. They are all looking forward to their own club championships on Sunday 4 March.

Well done to the Advanced Intermediate girls who competed in the Surrey Teams competition held at Tormead school in Guildford on Sunday 28th January and won silver medal! The girls, from the top left to right are: Rosie Sears, Lizzie Parsons, Rebecca Lally, and on the bottom row, Alex Lally and Danielle Hearn.

This is the first time the girls have competed as a team and (with the exception of Lizzie) the first time they have competed in this particular competition and performed their new floor routines. Their performances were very polished and beautifully stretched. Their vaults have improved considerably and their hard work is really showing in confident performances from everyone. Well done, you are real ambassadors for Surrey Borders! The girls were also pleased with their performances and proud of their silver medal.
